our Arlington get-away

After our productive week of house projects, Gene and I went on a 3-day, 2-night get-away to Arlington, VA.  We got a great price at the Double Tree Hotel (one of our favorite chain hotels) and spent three days walking around Crystal City and taking the metro to Georgetown.

As soon as we got there, we made our way to Caribou Coffee (Gene's fav) and Starbucks (my fav)...

We saw a lot of artwork hung up on the streets of Crystal City...

And made our way in the rain to Georgetown for the sole purpose of standing in line 2 hours at Georgetown Cupcakes (home of TLC's DC Cupcakes show).

Nice line, huh?  It was about 2 blocks long (and this was on a rainy day...apparently it's usually about 4 blocks long on a sunny day).

We finally made it inside (for about 5 minutes).  It wasn't a great atmosphere to take photos.  People were shoving each other aside to try to get a glimpse of the kitchen through the glass (where they tape the show).

We walked about a hundred blocks back to the metro and then walked another mile back to our hotel.  I was so excited to dig into my beautiful cupcakes.  I started to peak in the bag...

I admired the pretty pink box for a minute or two...

And when I opened the box, this is what I saw...

I was SO SAD!  Most of the cupcakes had switched icing when they somersaulted over each other.  The pretty green Easter cupcakes we got for the kids were no longer very pretty.  And the long-awaited PB cupcake I was drooling over in the store looked like this...

Before we left to go back home we ate lunch at Ted's Montana Grill, one of Gene's favorite restaurants, for his birthday.
