Monkeying Around at the Zoo

We arrived in sunny San Diego. We met up with Jeremy and Rachel Ellis, did a quick unpacking to make some room for them in our car and headed to the world famous San Diego Zoo. It is by far the nicest zoo I've ever visited (and I've been to a lot of them). The main creature we hunted for was the alway elusive Giant Anteater (one of my personal favorites). Well we searched the monkey cove and found no anteaters. Then we explored the bear path and found only some sleeping bears and one frisky polar bear who was playing with his toys. We searched through the deer and pig sections of the park and still couldn't find that ant eating creature. Then just before leaving we passed by the elephants and low and behold.....the giant anteater appeared. We saw it though it was sleeping with it's baby. It did stretch out once revealing it's true awesomenesss and flicked its tongue which impressed the crowd (okay only me). Some other animal highlights were the grunting, posing Rhino, the pygmy hippo, Orangutans (Renee's Favorite), meerkats, and the always impressive Malayan Tapir! After we left the zoo we went into Old Towne San Diego and ate at the famous Old Town Mexican Restaurant, which was good, and ended with a tour of the La Jolla Beach (pronounced hoya not jol-la). There we saw a group of seals laying out on the beach and ungulating around. Stay tuned as today we head to Sea World seeking penguins, seals, and Shamu! Oh My!
