(Because tomorrow night is Date Night at the Huston household...no, no watermelons this week...Gene asked me to post Thursday's post tonight. So, enjoy!)
After reading a great article on Blogging by our Worship Pastor, Bob Kauflin, (thanks, Beth!) it really got Gene and me thinking..."Our blog is a lot of fun to write and laugh about, but is it serving our readers?" I know that I'm just as guilty as the next person of sitting down to "just quickly check my email"...and find myself three hours later still clicking through pictures at a new blog site I found. I don't feel that this is sinful in and of itself, but it got me thinking..."Renee, maybe your time right now would be better spent serving your husband instead!" So, while we love having all of you stop by our site regularly for your daily (or sometimes hourly) dose of PB&J, we'd ask all of you to also consider asking yourself these great insightful questions from Mr. Kauflin:
Before I read a blog, it's always good to ask a few questions:
1. Is there a better way I should be spending my time?
2. Have I set a limit on how long I'm going to do this?
3. Do I plan to guard my heart as I read?
4. How much time do I spend each day reading blogs?
Bob even quoted his 17-year-old daughter, and we thought that it was well worth quoting here, too:
"My daughter started a blog where she posts pictures she's taken. She sent out an e-mail to let people know about it, and a portion of it said: If you ever have any free time and you're wondering, "What in the world am I going to do now?" don't go to my blog. Have extended devotions, or read some good book on our Savior, or serve your family. And once you've done that, come and visit my blog." That's great counsel. Whether you read, write or ignore blogs, I pray that God gives you grace to do it all for the glory of our Savior."
Nicely put, Mr. Kauflin! Us, Hustons couldn't agree more! So next time you reach for the laptop for a night of entertainment, think first...Am I using my time to glorify God? I know that I'll be telling my hubby to be asking me that question more often...in order to grow in even using my free time for the glory of God!
