Bible people ARE real people

In my quiet times in the mornings, I've been reading through 1 and 2 Samuel, as well as Ezekiel. This has been part of my reading the Bible in a year plan, which has been good.

What I've been learning from the Samuels is that we all fall way short of perfection. Take a look at a guy like David. I've always heard of the great things that David did and how "he was a man after God's own heart," slayed Goliath, won countless battles, wrote most of the psalms, and became the King of Israel. These are all true, but inwoven throughout David's story is his indwelling sin coming out. Indwelling sin is sin that dwells inside every person because of the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden. David's biggest sin was that he committed adultery with Bathsheba. Then he sent her husband off to war to be killed in battle, so that he could take as his wife. This led to to much calamity within David's house and instability in his household.

The thing that stands out to me the most is how God uses sinners like David and sinners like you and me to draw people to Himself. I mean though I may never be King of Israel, I know that I too have many short comings. Yet still God saved me through sending His son Jesus to die on a cross for me. God worked through David to fulfill His plans at the time, and He will use each of us to do the very same. If you are a Christian, God is at work in you, even if you don't see any change.

So be encouraged loyal viewers and seek to learn from our Biblical heroes like David. Seeking to emulate their good qualities (because there are a lot of them) and learning from their mistakes, which seem so obvious to us. But if we're honest with ourselves we've all made a lot of stupid mistakes. I know I have.

Thanks for joining me for today's thoughts.
