Girls Night In
Tonight was truly a "Fun Friday." While Gene was off traveling to PA for the night, several of the girls from our Singles' Care Group (that Gene and I lead) came over for a girls night. After all of us had our plate full of food to keep us occupied for the next two hours, we had the hard task of choosing which girlie movie to watch. With about 15 movies layed out in front of us, we found out that several of the girls had never seen Pride and Prejudice before...which is pretty much a sin. After making Gene watch the six hour long VHS older copy of the movie shortly after we got married, I finally received the new 2005 version on DVD this year.
So, tonight all six of us girls laughed (and I know I even spotted several tears) as we watched Mr. and Mrs. Bennet exchange humorous remarks as their five daughters fell more and more in love with the rather comical male characters throughout the movie. I think that one of my many favorite quotes in the movie comes from the following scene because of the rather blunt humor of Mr. Bennet...
Mr. Bennet: Well, if Jane does die, it will be a comfort to know she was in pursuit of Mr. Bingley.
Mrs. Bennet: People do not die of colds.
Elizabeth Bennet: Though she may well perish with the shame of having such a mother.
I think all of us girls had fun tonight watching this 2005 remake. The lovely Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Bennet) does a great job bringing this Jane Austen novel to life. You also gotta love the foggy "V-neck" scene with Mr. Darcy. Any of you who've seen this new version knows what I mean. And any of you who don't, hopefully this quick review has tempted you to rent this flick the next time you're aimlessly wandering around Blockbuster. It's well worth 2 hours and 9 minutes of your time.
