Cat lovers out there, I salute you

Round about 1990 my Mom moved Bryan, Tonya, and I north from Mechanicsburg, PA to Trout Run. Mechanicsubrg is a suburb of Harrisburg, so there was lots to do, friends to see and all that good stuff. But when we moved to live next to Gram and Grandpa in Trout Run, I wasn't a "happy camper." Sure Henerey was with me, but every one else was left behind and in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania there's not a lot "to do", at least that was my arguement. Mom wanted to help make the transition more fun, so she said I could get another pet. Yay! We headed off to the SPCA with Gram one day and I ended up getting a gray cat, who had caught my attention by snatching my sleeve with her paw.

We took her home and Bryan got one too. When I showed the lil gray furball to Grandpa, he promptly named her Blue. I thought that was a great name, so it stuck.

Blue was around from 1990 until 2002ish. (Yes sadly I did say was.) Blue was independent like most cats and she kinda acted like a dog sometimes. Some key Blue memories, ah let's try to narrow them down. One of the funniest was when she'd bring things in from outside. Blue thought it was a good thing to bring things to the doorstep for me, and she'd keep them alive just for me. There were countless chipmunks, mice, and the like she let loose in the house. Once she brought in what looked like the typical mouse. I vividly remember Bryan, Mom, and I watching tv in the livingroom. Mom yelled at Blue to "Get that thing out of the house!" This startled Bluse and she dropped the "mouse", which quickly took to flight. It was a bat! The funniest part was that Bryan ran into Mom's room screaming like a girl. I took charge and caught the frightened little bat, releasing him outside.

Blue would always sleep on the back of the couch when my high school friends and I would play video games. She loved to rough house and play fight. She was never very fond of cat toys. Blue would wake up with me in mornings during my high school years. I'd eat my cereal and give her the milk. Then she'd follow me up to Gram's where my bus stop was and hang out with Gram for the day until I came home. Blue got sickly thin as she aged and was a little slower, but I'll always remember that she used to sleep on my bed with me. When I'd come back from college on weekends Blue would miss me and follow me around everywhere. At night she'd sleep on my pillow above my head. Man, I loved that cat!

Now I'm not really a cat person, but Blue changed my mind for a time. I doubt I'll ever own another cat seeing as Renee hates cats, but the reasons for that are a blog for another day.
