Today's Fieldtrip
Today Del and I and the rest of fourth grade from Weller Road Elementary headed into Inner Harbor today. It was rainy and cold to start the day, and our bus was late, but we still had a decent trip and I think the kidos learned a lot. Living Classrooms is a program that takes students out on boats and shows them what they can learn about the Chesapeake Bay. We got there and the kidos had to put on their rain coats and then put on their life jackets. A lot of complaints were heard, but that didn't last long. Soon they were asking for more layers as we ventured out on the cool misty-rainy morning. They had many interactive activities and our guides were great. The kids liked throwing the net overboard to catch some organisms. The only problem is we only caught two fish less than and inch long, a stick with a barnacle on it, and tons of garbage. The bay is healthy, but has a bunch of junk in it, was the basic findings of our research. They did enjoy holding Sparky, a white perch that they had in a tank onboard. They also enjoyed learning the parts of an oyster and seeing the insides of it. We had a good time and all came back wet, tired, but a little wiser.
