My Field Trip

On Friday I took my fourth graders to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. When you go with a good group of kids it can be a lot of fun. I had two chaperons so my group was 7 kids. We started off getting on the Metro. It can be a lil hectic getting 80 Metro passes but it was without incident. On the Metro I told my kids to fake yawn to pop their ears in the tunnels.

We arrived in DC and the kids saw "The Needle" (That's fourth grader for the Washington Monument.) We entered the museum and had a good time. It's good to see kids these days still love dinosaurs and mummies. When we were visiting the cavemen the kids of course had to comment on their lack of clothing. I told my one boy that in the desert they didn't need a lot of clothes because it was really hot. He asked if he'd need to wear clothes if he lived in the desert. I told him he'd have to ask his parents. As we were looking down into a Neanderthal burial site one of my girls looked at me with a concerned look and pointed down saying, "I accidentally dropped my pen down there." Sure enough the Neanderthals were indeed burying a red pen with their dead.

It was a great field trip with a great class, but we were all ready to go home and take a nap when we got back.
