From Grape to Kumquat

Here's my latest email from the baby website I subscribe to:

(Oh--and for Ruth and all the rest of you who were wondering, I really have no clue as to what the sex may be....no motherly instincts, yet. I noticed in the emails that I'm getting from the Baby Center that sometimes they use "she" and sometimes "he." I guess they like to shake things up. Today's pronoun of choice was "she.")

--Our baby is no longer an embryo! Though she's barely the size of a kumquat. (I guess she moved up from a grape to a kumquat...see picture. No wonder I'm always so hungry for fruit.)

--She's just an inch or so long and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce.

--She's completed the most critical portion of her development. Now is the beginning of the fetal period, when her tissues and vital organs mature rapidly.

--Her liver, kidney, intestines, brain, and lungs are in place and starting to function, and they'll continue to develop throughout the pregnancy.

--During the next three weeks, our baby's length will more than double to nearly 3 inches.

Funny pregnancy moments:

I've had several, all having to do with memory loss. My 3rd grade team at school said that it's going to be a great year just watching me slowly continue to lose my mind....literally. For instance, I was at my friend Kelly's house the other day (I've been there about a million times before) and I stood up and starting walking towards the hallway closet and said, "I'm going to use your bathroom before I leave. Is it this door?" in which Kelly starting laughing and pointed in the opposite direction and said, "It's still back there where it's always been, Renee!" Oh boy!

Then I was peparing some school supplies for my students and proceeded to write the same boy's name on four notebooks before I realized that I never moved down the list to the next name. That happened twice in one day....even with the same name!

Ha! Renee your so cute. I love hearing stories of pregnancy moments! It's amazing what a lot of hormones can do to a woman's mind ;)

If you are losing your mind already - just wait! I can't go anywhere without a list anymore - and sometimes I even forget things that are on the list. I hope that in a couple of months after Emerson is born my brain and memory will return to normal!
