Maybe not the worst day in recorded human history, but definitely one of the worst starts to a day that I have ever had. Let me explain. This morning I car pooled with Del to work at 6:30am, same as always. I put up my agenda on the board and went to copy a few papers. Day as usual. And as usual, Renee called me at 7:40am,. But what she said wasn't the usual "I love you have a good day." She simply said, "I can't find the keys to the car."
In this moment my mind went raising in rewind about what happened earlier that morning. Wanting to be the good husband I try to be, I checked the fluids in our car so my wife would make it safely to work. So I stuck my hand into my pocket and pulled out the only key to our Cougar.
I told Renee that I had the key, saw Del in the hall, ran to car en route to give her the key and return to school. So I was attempting to get through traffic and take the quickest way home. I took some side streets and was about to take a left to turn onto another side street when I saw a school bus down that road. So I went straight, only to get pulled over by a cop for going straight in a right turn only lane.
I fumbled through Del's paper filled glove compartment and found his registration. So as I was waiting for my ticket, I called Renee to say I'd be a few more minutes late. The officer kindly let me off with a warning.
I continued home without incident. Relaying the keys to Renee and we both got to work ten minutes late. Joy to us because of my stupidity. This definitely isn't the first case of my stupidity and all signs indicate it won't be my last.
Hooray for being me.
