So, last night was our first of six birthing classes. It actually went REALLY well, and we met another couple who's due the same time that we are and live close to us. She's a 3rd grade teacher, and they recently moved here from Denver, CO...the same area that we visited this summer. Our teacher is really nice, too. She introduced herself last night and said that her daughter just graduated from Bucknell University (the town over from where I grew up). Small world!
My husband, on the other hand, had a hard time behaving himself. :) During the one movie that we watched, they were showing what to pack for our hospital stay. The mom-actor was packing a suitcase and added a rolling pin to her list of items. Well, you can imagine my husband cracking up at this comment and started repeating out loud, "A rolling pin?! A rolling pin?!" I guess I really am learning how to be a mom during this course because I had plenty of practice giving the "you-better-behave-yourself-or-else" look more than once!
At another part of the evening the instructor asked us what were some positive things about being pregnant. One husband piped up, "I love having conversations with my wife's belly." I looked at Gene and said, "You haven't done that yet! I think we need to start." (We've prayed for the baby but never got right down to talk to my belly, which the instructor said was good to do.)
So, last night I climbed into bed ready to go to sleep. Then Gene leaned over and got right down face-to-face with my belly and said (in his best Darth Vader voice), "Jokull, this is your father speaking. Don't worry...I'm going to pack the rolling pin in the hospital bag for your mother."
This of course set me in fits of laughter. And, thus, the Daddy & Jokull conversations begin!
