Gene and I thank God for our townhouse that we're renting, but we're not here for the long-haul. We both desire to have a backyard for our kids to play in someday and room to roam around. We are continually saddened by where we see the neighborhood kids playing, and we know that Callan would probably be doing the same if he were a few years older! Gene's family owns a mountain in PA (no joke), so being cramped was never an issue for them. They didn't have to worry about whispering when they ate out on their deck because the neighbors might overhear their conversation through open windows.
When we first moved in we noticed that the only place the girl next door had to ride her bike was around her small deck out back. She got really good at making 3-point turns.
A few weeks after we moved in we noticed that the busy parking lot also doubled as a playground for a few kids who were probably 5 years old or younger. Not the safest spot around. They were having fun, though, taking those magnetic bumper stickers off cars and moving them around.
Then last night Gene and I were eating supper on our deck and heard glass clanging behind us. Two decks over we saw that the neighbor kids were now entertaining themselves by playing in the recyclable tub.
While we know God has graciously provided this home for us to live in for this year and to have room to move around and not be contained to one room (Thank you, Lord!), we still earnestly hope that someday we'll own a home with a backyard so that Callan can play catch with his dad without going to the local park. :)
We're still praying about where God would have us buy a house...PA, MD, CO, or maybe in another state that we haven't even thought of yet.
