Paradigm Shift

paradigm
So as we prepare for baby number two we realize that we need to get going with our baby names list. As many of you know Callan wasn't on our first or second lists when we brainstormed the first time. There were so many names I liked but Renee didn't and vis versa. So our first list we got down to 4 boys names and 3 girls names. The girls names we agreed on, but the boys' names seemed hopeless. I kept going back to the 100,000 baby name book to seek out new names. Callan came when I was looking for cool Scottish names (since "Huston" has Scottish roots). Callen was the Scottish version of Nicholas and Callan (with an "a"- was the Australian spelling of the Scottish version of Nicholas which also means "sparrow hawk". Renee like how it sounded and didn't care so much about the meaning or historical roots.

Now here we are awaiting baby number 2, with a similar dilemma. We agree on a few boys' names but our girls list has fallen apart. We haven't really talked about it too much other than to say, "Hey I've got a new name but the other doesn't really like it. Does that mean this is a girl?

Anyway while brainstorming, I was looking back at my Brannaka side roots and thought it was cool that I'm 1/16 Choctaw. I asked my mom what our Great Great grandmother's name was just as a curiosity since many of my family names have already been used. My mom made a few calls and found out that actually someone had traced our family tree back and great great grandmother was NOT Choctaw, but in fact Lakota Sioux. I wish I would have known this when we drove by the Battle of Little Big Horn a few years agoAlthough Renee didn't think it as profound as I did, now I have some added direction for baby names. How about "Snana" which means "jingles like little bells" which would be Christmas appropriate? (before anyone rebukes me for this one, Renee already shot this one down. We'll find out the name for sure in a few weeks! :)

Right now, only God knows the sex or the name of our next little bundle of joy.
