Sometimes when Kinsley starts to really lose it all you can do is laugh
because it's so outrageous it's funny. Like today for instance. At lunch all was fine. All was relatively quiet. All the kids were eating their lunch. Then this conversation unfolded, which left Callan and me laughing like crazy...
K: Mommy, I want mac 'n cheese.
Me: We don't have any, Kins. You ate it all yesterday for lunch.
K: (starts sobbing while trying to continue the conversation) But I want mac 'n cheese from my house not your house.
Me: What?! (I look at Callan.....we both crack up because this doesn't make sense.)
K: I want mac 'n cheese from my house not your house. (emphasized with finger pointing)
Me: Kins, I told you that you ate it already. Remember when you ate mac 'n cheese with Katie and Timothy yesterday? You all had some. Now it's all gone.
K: (still sobbing in a pathetic way) But I want to eat it now!
Me: We have more in the pantry that we'll eat on another day. (still laughing with Callan)
K: No we don't. We don't have any left! There is none in there. We need more! (sob, sob)
Me: No, Kins. Look! (holding up box of mac 'n cheese from pantry) What is this?
K: (stops crying) Mac 'n cheese.
Me: Yes, we can have this on another day. Right now you need to finish your mashed potatoes and meat.
K: (starts sobbing again) I don't like the way you cut them!! (sob, sob sob...)
Me: What??? (more laughing from C and me)
K: I don't like how you cut them! I don't want them.
C: You mean the way Mommy cooked them?
K: Yes....(sob, sob, sob).....I don't like them!
Me: Here, just eat the meat then.
K: (sobbing) I'm so tired!!!!! (This is what she says when she's trying to get out of doing something.)
Me: I can see that. You're so tired you are out of control. You need a nap.
K: (eats a bite of meat...makes a sour face) It's not tasty to me! (spits it out on plate)
At this point C and I have been laughing 'cause it's like watching a drunk person lose control of their emotions. She's all over the place! And...tasty?? When she used that word it was just too much.
And, yes, lunch was promptly followed by a good long afternoon nap.
