crisco, a chair, and a dead phone

Why do these things happen while Gene's away???

This weekend Gene's friend from college is down visiting.  Today they went down to DC to go site seeing.  Lucky for me, that's when this episode took place...

Lunch time is almost over.  Callan is fooling around on his chair while Kinsley finishes her meal.  A few seconds later I hear Callan screaming.  I look over and see his leg sticking out through the rungs of the chair.  His leg is stuck.

No problem.  I'll just push it back through.

Problem.  It won't go back through.  Callan screams bloody murder every time I try to push it through.

Problem.  My phone doesn't work.  The night before the speaker blew out on my phone, which means I can only text until my replacement phone arrives in the mail next week.  Luckily I borrowed Gene's phone for the day (since he'll be with his friend who has a phone).  I use his phone to call him on his friend's phone, even though I know there is nothing he can do.  He tells me that I'll just have to break the rung on the chair to get his leg out.

I tell him I'll take care of it and hang up.  Apparently my husband forgot that my name isn't The Hulk.  I can't just rip the chair apart with my bare hands!

I really need another person to help me so I can lift Callan out while someone else pushes his leg through.  I see out the window that two of my neighbors aren't home, so I call the third neighbor.  No answer.  I dial our friends who live a mile away.  Luckily both parents are home, so Michelle stays with her kids while Dave comes over to help me with Callan's leg.

When Dave shows up, I already have Callan's pants off (that was an adventure in itself!) and have spread Crisco all over his leg and the chair.  On the second try, Dave and I are able to slide his leg out together.

Callan gives me a big hug.  He's shaken up but isn't crying anymore.  Luckily Finn slept through it all and Kinsley just sat there staring at Callan the whole time.  She was a perfect angel through it all...probably too scared to move because she saw her big brother screaming in fear.

You know what I was thinking the whole time?  I'm just glad this is his leg stuck in the chair instead of his head stuck in the stairs banister!  God only gives you what you can handle...thank goodness!
