My Latest "MacGuyver" Moment

Well all of you products of the 80s out here must remember the show Macguyver. They have the first few seasons out on DVD. (I know because we bought it for Renee's dad, then borrowed it) Macguyver was know for solving problems with everyday items. He could make a hang glider out of bubblegum, a box, some glitter, wax paper, and a fire extinguisher.

Well last week at work I was using the copier and it broke down. Now with out copier, it'll tell you where the problem is, so that you can open her up, and pull out the paper jam. So I tried to do this. The paper was stuck in a place that required you to tirn this knob. Well the plastic know itself was missing so all that was there was the metal rod. There was nothing I could do because I couldn't grab ahold of the rod to turn it.

So Del and I were then eating lunch and I told them it was jammed and jokingly, said I'd use a pie cutter to fix it like Macguyver would do, and Del through in, "Yeah and soda tab."

We entered the copy room and opened her up. It still wouldn't turn and I looked at Del who was still drinking his Cherry Coke. I just smiled, took his can, and removed the tab.

He said, "I was joking. You can't fix a $5,000 machine with a piece of a 5 cent can."

So I put the tab over the rod and used it to crank out the jammed paper, thus concluding my Macguyver moment.

Anyone out there have a "Macguyver moment" to share?

Here goes for my only MacGuyver moment...There was one time I was with a friend and we were making the three hour trip to northern Indiana in a really bad rain/snow storm (the further north you went the rain turned to snow).

My friend's passenger side windshield wiper was having issues and we were trying to figure out what to do. We had to get it to stay down because it would go over to the driver side and had potential of getting stuck on the driver side windshield wiper and breaking that one.

At first we both started chewing gum and I took the gum he was chewing and chewed it in my mouth with my own gum hoping to create this super adhesive to have the windshield wiper stay in place. Unfortunately this idea totally bombed.

I did have a some plastic tubing from physical therapy I was taking for a sprained ankle. I was able to put the loop of the rubber tubing around the wiper and then tie the other end to something on the inside of the car to get the wiper stay down.
