Heman....our new bundle of joy

As many of you out there know I have decided that we would name our first son He-man after the classic hulking 80s hero. To add to that, Heman is in the Bible! (It's true.) Well after deliberating over using this name with Renee, we agreed that it IS a great name, and we needed to put it to good use.

We've also been talking about getting a pet for some time. Irwin, our Golden Inca Snail, just doesn't cut it as a "fun" pet. I wanted to get a dog, but our apartment really is too small. Then after my "Skippy post", I thought it'd be fun to get another flying squirrel. Renee wasn't so fond of the idea of a squirrel in the house, so we talked it over and realized we needed something unique and quiet, that could live in a smaller apartment. So we got a Chinchilla! Renee actually thought it was cute for a rodent. We just got him tonight. I went into the Chinchilla pen at Petsmart to see which of the three guys I wanted. I liked the bigger one who was in the pipe because he seemed more friendly. But then the smallest one (Heman) jumped into my hands. I guess God wanted us to take that one home, so we shuttled him into his travel box and took him back to our place. He is a lil shy right now but likes to be pet. Heman is surprising soft, like a bucket of cotton. We got the chinchilla starter kit, complete with food, a water bottle, some bedding, and a cage (that we call castle Gray Skull)

So we are offically the parents of a cuddly, yet masculine pet chinchilla!

We'll see if we can teach He-man any tricks, and hopefully we can get him out and about as he grows up a lil bit more. My goal is to get him used to the pet leash and take him for a walk this spring. Dogs and people beware....Heman will own the sidewalks come spring!
