"I used my thumbs, Mommy!"

After reading my friend's post about her son's recent potty achievement, that reminded me that I wanted to post this funny story about Callan that happened yesterday...

Callan has been potty trained for months now, but he still asks for help when going to the potty...getting onto the potty, pulling down his pants, etc. I figured it was about time that the boy learn how to take his own pants down, so a few weeks ago I showed him how to put his thumbs into the sides of his pants and pull downward. (He found this fun since one of his favorite books lately has been Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb.)

Fast forward to yesterday...I was in the middle of putting Kinsley down for a nap when Callan came running, "Potty, Mommy! Potty!" I was hoping that he could hold it for 30 more seconds while I finished with Kinsley, so I said, "Ok, Buddy. Go down to the potty in Mommy's bathroom, and I'll be right there."

By the time I got down there, I found a trail of underwear and pants leading into the bathroom...and a naked boy sitting on the potty! I walked in totally surprised (and seeing that he had indeed already gone to the bathroom...so thank goodness he did put himself on before I got there) and said, "Callan, how did you get all undressed and make it onto the potty by yourself?"

He replied (while proudly holding up his two thumbs), "Used thumbs and pulled down, Mommy!"

A whole new world has now opened up for me. Now I don't have to go running when the boy screams, "Potty, Mommy!" I can just yell back, "Ok, use your thumbs and I'll be right there!"

Know that feeling of when you hear "I have to go potty" that you must go with the kid! Alex is learning too to pull down pants. She can get down but I think I need a bigger stool for her to get up by herself. At this point I'm just glad she's trained! haha
