It's NERF or nothing

As a tradition, when each of our children has been born, I have gone to Toys 'R Us and gotten them a Daddy type gift. It's been hard to "plan for" since we never know the sex until it's born.

Callan got a yellow Tonka dump truck (I believe it was the classic 50th anniversary) model. I got myself a Tonka shirt to go with it.

Kinsley got a Smurf and a Smurfette Poly Pocket type little doll house. (It was definitely a little harder to shop in the "pink aisles" as I rarely ventured there as a kid. I got a Papa Smurf shirt to go with it.

Fintan was a tad harder to buy for because in 3 1/2 years Callan has received a lot of gifts that are from or based upon my generation. Fintan's Daddy gift was NERF inspired. I went to Toys R US today while Fintan and Renee were asleep and it took me a long time to decide what I wanted to get him. There was a NERF football and basketball hoop, but I remember how they were easily destroyed especially when I was young. I also saw the NERF dart tag guns and a NERF battle axe (which were awesome), but I thought Renee might frown upon our new son's first gift being a 100 shooter dart gun (Maybe for his first birthday).

So Fintan got a NERF football alarm clock. I figure that will last a little longer than a regular football that gets the classic toddler bite marks. Of course, in the spirit of tradition I got a NERF shirt to wear while holding our new son.

Bonus points for anyone who knows what N.E.R.F. stands for.
