in case you've been fooled...

Some people comment to me that they don't know how I do it all.  All mom bloggers know, though, that for every one cute blog picture there are 1000 bad ones.  For every one cute blog story there are 1000 "I'm-going-to-pull-my-hair-out" stories.

So, for every person out there reading who I've had fooled, here's a glimpse of real life behind our closed doors (and some not-so-closed-doors).  Here's to keepin' it real...

On Monday I had 6+ loads of laundry lying in the hallway all day.  Finn walked around most of the day with a pair of dirty underwear in his hands.  This was only the first half of our family's dirty laundry.  I later found out my husband took a shower and used the shower mat to dry off because there were no towels.

On Monday as I put away the clean laundry, Finn pulled it out of the drawers and ran down the hallway with it.

On Monday Kinsley screamed while getting her hair combed.  She hates combs.  I showed her a picture of Cousin Itt and told her she'd look like that if she didn't let me comb it.  For real.

On Monday Gene came home from work saying that his "new" car he just bought stalled three times on the way home and was leaking fluids.

On Monday I tried painting ornaments with the kids for "fun."  After we got them all painted, I opened the red paint bottle and red paint splattered all over my kitchen...and the ornaments.  I had to repaint all of them.

On Monday Gene put the new candles in our windows that I bought last year on sale.  Gene cursed them as he tried to light them, saying they were the junkiest candles to try to screw together.  Out of 6, one bulb didn't work.  Ok.  5 will look a little weird in our 6 windows but will have to do.  During bedtime, the one in the kids' window mysteriously fell and broke.  6 candles are now in the trash, 0 in our windows.

On Monday I drug all three kids to the post office.  Again.  Having our own business has forced me to go to the post office a lot lately...with all three kids.  This particular day we had to wait in line for awhile.  By the time the lady behind the counter beckoned us to her window, child A decided to start playing with the Christmas cards on sale.  I told this child to put down the cards and come along with Mommy.  They didn't, and instead child B grabbed them to put them back and child A fell to the ground screaming.  Child C in my arms had been held long enough and was screaming, too.  Child A & B were now screaming at each other while child C continued screaming at me.  The long line of post office customers were not so pleased.  I shuffled my children to the window and quickly paid for my package.  I was wearing sweat pants that were too big for me with a shirt that was too small, and my hair had not seen a comb all day.  My daughter was also wearing sandals in 40 degree weather.  My son was not wearing a coat either because we left it in PA.  I'm sure everyone there shook their head at me as I left with my gaggle of children.

On Monday I used leftover Thanksgiving turkey to make our favorite dish: turkey with gravy and waffles.  My children decided they wanted turkey w/ gravy & waffles minus the turkey & gravy.  And my son wanted toast, too.  In case you didn't catch that, I fed my children waffles with a side of toast.

On Monday night I broke down in tears because I can't do it all.

Preparing for Thanksgiving.
Traveling for Thanksgiving.
Unpacking after Thanksgiving.
Deer hunting season (a.k.a. me alone with three kids for three days).
Planning Kinsley's birthday party.
Making gifts for Christmas.
Decorating for Christmas.
Running a business (a second job for both of us) until 11pm each night.

"It's the most wonderful time of the year."  Not in this household.

I'm going now to meditate on Matthew 1.  I need to refocus.

Thanks for keepin it real. I'm one of the "how does she do it all" readers. Oh and for real. Stamps.com and a postage scale from Amazon. If you have at least one priority mail piece you can schedule next day pick up by your mail man. I do some admin work from home and mail tons of stuff and I literally never go to the post office. Even if I cant schedule a pickup I just put all my packages by our mailbox and off they go.

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to Amazon now to look into that scale! :)

Loved this post, Renee, and laughed out loud several times. All of it is so familiar... thanks for "deglamming" your life and being so relatable. :)
