time to brag

Time to brag!  My husband is amazing!  He can plan some fun date nights, but his forte is planning for special events, like Valentine's Day.

Yesterday I woke up to a heart made of Australian flags and an envelope with seeds to plant an Australian tree taped to the bathroom mirror (each flag had a sweet message written on the back).  There was also a fake plane ticket to Australia (which really had me fooled/freaked-out for a minute...or two), telling me that the day was going to be an Australian adventure.

Gene also took it upon himself to get us a baby-sitter for the evening.  I didn't have to call around at all!  He did it himself.  We left early (4:45pm) for dinner at Outback Steak House to beat the rush (we got seated right away...20 minutes later the entry-way was FULL of people).  We had GREAT service, and they even handed out a flower to all the women who ate there last night.  Nice touch.

When we got home he gave me a package.  It was the romance movie, Australia, with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman.  We had seen this a few years ago and loved it.  Before starting the movie, though, he gave me several love poems that he had found that had been written by an Aussie.  Then he topped it off by reading me a poem that he had written himself.

Babe, thanks for a wonderful evening that made me feel more like a wife than a mom.  It's always good to be reminded that my role extends beyond diaper changing and nose wiping.

2000 days

This morning I walked down to the kitchen and saw these waiting for me on the kitchen table...

...as well as a card that said "Happy Anniversary" on the envelope.

I quickly rubbed my groggy eyes and panicked for half a second while I tried to figure out what the date was. I thought that maybe I had missed our anniversary! I was pretty sure the 90 degree temperature outside was telling me that it was June and not October (we were married Oct 30th).

After opening the card, I realized that today is our 2000th day being married! The hubs is really good at figuring out crazy "holidays" for us to celebrate. I just love being married to a one-of-a-kind husband! I never know what to expect next!

huston's advent calendar

This weekend Gene and I completed a HUGE project that took 8 hours of non-stop work. I posted a whole bunch of pictures on my other blog HERE. He wanted me to post a pic here, too.

Singing fish

Once and awhile I'll surprise Gene and laugh just as hard as he does at a "stupid humor" commercial or movie. THIS COMMERCIAL has been the running joke in our house this week. Last night Gene fell asleep while I laid there with this song running through my mind. I woke him up to tell him that the song he was singing before bed was now stuck in my mind and I couldn't fall asleep. He cracked up laughing.

Then this morning on the white board in the kitchen (where he sometimes writes down things he wants me to do for him that day) he wrote this, "Give me that filet 'o fish..." with a cartoon picture of a fish.

I have a feeling this stupid commercial will be haunting our family for a while...and I don't even like fish!

1,460 days

Today marks 1,460 days of being married to the most wonderful man! There are a lot of things I love about my crazy, hilarious, romantic hubby like:

...hearing him say, "Babe, I've tried to think of ways to make our metro ride into DC tonight romantic since it's part of our anniversary night, but there's just no way to make the metro romantic."

...watching him turn Callan upside down in the air over his head, and then watch the big glob of spit-up run down his face.

...when he puts flowers in the back of my van for me to find when I go to run errands.

...knowing that he knows my weaknesses and that he'll pray for God to strengthen me in those areas.

...knowing he gets excited over the little things, like when he says, "Do you think you can post your meal plans for the week on the refrigerator because I like to see what meals are coming up for the week so that I can get excited about them on my way home from work."

...when he gets up an hour and a half before he leaves from work so that he has enough time to continue his Bible-in-a-year plan.

...when he empties the dishwasher for me in the mornings because he knows that I hate that chore.

...watching his eyes light up when he sees that we're having BBQ cups and Smiles (his favorite type of french fries) for dinner.

...knowing that the next 1,460+ days will be filled with more laughter, love and memories!

Happy anniversary!
I LOVE YOU, BABE!
Thanks for making me the happiest women on the earth 1,460 days ago!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABE!

Callan's not the only one with a birthday in April. He shares this month with his Daddy, too! Today is Gene's birthday....not quite 30 yet (but close)! Here's a quick tribute to my favorite man.

Reasons I love my hubby:
--he's consistently patient with me
--he has the opposite personality of me
--he's crazy (What other guy can not go to sleep with his alarm set for 5:30 because 3+0 does not = 5??)
--he changed his outfit this morning so that he could match his new birthday sneakers that he picked out (see picture)
--he's my protector
--he's so cute when he plays with Callan...especially when he blows on his tummy to make him smile
--and last but not least, he fears God and daily studies God's Word so that he can apply Truth to all that he does

WE LOVE YOU, BABE/DADDY! Hurry home from work so we can play!

love,
wifE and Callan

3 Wonderful Years Later

Yesterday Gene and I celebrated our 3rd Anniversary (hence the beautiful flowers that are pictured here, which I accidentally found hidden in the bathtub the night before our anniversary...oops!). We went to dinner last night and recounted all that has happened to us over the past three years of our marriage. Of course the biggest change in our lives was the news of another addition to our family (and no I'm not talking about Heman, our Chinchilla). Each anniversary is a chance to remind my husband of how much I don't deserve his unfailing love towards me and his continual forgiveness of my daily sins against him. There's no man I'd rather share the rest of my life with! I love you, Babe!

I miss you!

Hey, Babe! I've been reading your posts from here, at the University of Connecticut. I miss you and love you, too! See you tomorrow....

love,
Wife

P.S. Great job on being so diligent while I'm away and finishing all those Grad papers. I'm proud of you!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HUBBY!

Yesterday was Gene's birthday! I didn't post this "Happy Birthday" wish yesterday because I was busy making a special dinner for Gene. We went out to eat Saturday at the Bugaboo to celebrate (Gene's all-time favorite restaurant), so last night I told him that I'd cook him dinner since it was his actualy birthDAY. Typical Gene, he wanted hamburgers with pepper jack cheese and Smiley french fries from Giant with orange Crush to swallow it all down with. A pie plate holding a huge chocolate chip cookie was for dessert. I felt like I was making a birthday dinner for a 4-year old! haha Oh---and Gene's favorite part was eating dinner while listening to his new punk CD in the background. Needless to say, there will not be any punk music playing during my birthday dinner in a few weeks.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABE! I LOVE YOU!

My Super Goofy Guy

Recently Gene has been asking me if I was planning on doing a blog post soon since he's been the one who's been writing a lot lately. Whenever he says this I always reply with, "But, Honey, you're the one with all the dramatic stories that people want to hear about!"

So, yes, for all you faithful readers of MY posts (thanks Mom and Dad) I AM still alive, but my oh-so-entertaining-hubby has been stealing the show lately with his nose polyp story. Who knew that something so gross could be so entertaining to everyone?! Actually, I know that it's so entertaining because it's so gross.

My husband seems to be a hit even at MY school. My co-workers are always asking if I have any "Gene" stories. Today my one co-worker was telling a story about her son riding his Big Wheel Bike on his own for the first time this weekend. My reply was, "Would it surprise you if I said that Gene had his own Big Wheel Bike just a few years ago, too?" That comment was followed by much laughter and the response, "No, Renee, actually that does not surprise me at all!"

A joke that we've had since courtship was that Gene would refer to me as his "Super Godly Girl" (haha....all my Care Group girls know how untrue that is!). Well, I guess that makes him my "Super Goofy Guy"....and I love every goofy minute with him!
