Gene's co-worker got 16 free tickets to the CAPS vs PREDS hockey game the other night. We got to go along with some of his co-workers and their spouses. The seats were in a suite, so we had a little room all to ourselves. Gene requested tickets to this game since his Predators only come to DC once every other year (until next year when the hockey schedule changes). Unfortunately the Preds lost this game, but it was still fun to watch a game live. It's one of my favorite sports to watch live. So much action happening!

My little Hockey Player (#83)
Last Friday night Gene geared up in about 10 pounds of padding and headed out on the hockey rink at our local sports complex to join several other men as part of the "Misfits" team. Gene has been begging to play for several years now, so over the past several months he saved up to buy all the gear that he would need in order to play. He said, "I feel like a kid on the first day of school. I have no idea what to expect when I show up at the rink tonight. Do I wear my padding to the rink? Do I get dressed when I get there? Do I have all the right gear? Will I score?"
Well, he decided to wear all of his gear to the rink, hence the picture of him getting dressed below. Because he was all full of padding and could barely walk out our door, I had to drive.
We made it to the rink, and I found another player's mom and grandma to sit beside in the bleachers. Yep....the pregnant lady, MIkey's mom, Mikey's Grandma, and Del. What a scene. It wasn't quite as interesting as the scene on the rink, though. The Misfits managed a tie between the first team that they played, but won the second game of the evening. Gene did get to score his first point during the second game ("Way to go, Honey!). He was right by the goal, and he dropped his hockey stick. He furiously tried for about 10 seconds to pick it up off the floor, which was next to impossible with those big hockey gloves on. (Del and I were losing it in the bleachers. It was too comical!) He finally got a grasp on it while the puck was passed to him.....and he scored!
Tonight are games 3 and 4. I'm sure there will be more stories to report later. Anything that involves my husband usually does!

Hockey Season
Yep ya'll can keep me in your prayers as I practice for and start roller hockey a week from today. It's something I've wanted to do since I was in high school, so a decade later I have the gear ready, new florescent green wheels, a yellow stick, and hopefully some energy to do well.
You can check out the roller hockey link on the site www.rockvillesports.com to get a better idea what I'll be doing. They will also be posting any goals or other stats I get.
Just pray that I'll have fun, get in a little better shape, score a few goals, be a good Christian example to my teammates, and hopefully not injury myself. Those of you who know me, know I don't take it easy when I play sports. And I figure with all the pads, how can I get hurt? (knock on wood)
