Chorus:I wanna go back to the day (back to the day)
Before all my fun was taken away (taken away)
When I could ride my big wheel down the street
wore velcro shoes on my feet
I wanna go back to the day (back to the day)
when there was always a reason to play (reason to play)
Days of tag, kickball, and hide and go seek
Couldn't wait until the end of the week
To watch those Saturday morning cartoons
From 8 in the morning until noon
There were Smurfs (lalalalalala), He-man, and GI-Joe ( a real American hero)
My Buddy, My Buddy with his funny red hair
Days of Transformers on my underwear (they're more than meets the eye)
Days when you could cry and get a cookie
Skipping school (yeah playing hookie)
Playing in the Little League
Sugar high running without fatigue
Never taking candy from strangers
Learnin' from Smokey about fire dangers (only you can prevent forest fires)
Playing with Slinkies and Play-Doh
Days of Atari and Nintendo (dundundun, dundundundundun)
Mr. Rodgers, Cookie Monster, and grover (near....far)
Wearin footed pajamas for that big sleep over
Never heeding my mom's warning
Looking for Easter eggs Easter morning
Not caring how I was dressed
Keeping my room a perfect mess
Lightning bugs in a jar
Micro Machines and Match Box Cars (powpowpower wheels)
Days of girls with cooties
and great 80's movies
Crayons and my Light Bright
Looking for the Boogie man at night
When you could write Santa Claus a letter
and mom could kiss it and make it all better
So there it is, another Pocketgophers original song, "Back to the Day", that Del and I would perform at our college Open Mic Nights. During some parts of this song I'd shake a container of oatmeal (which you can see in the picture) to keep a beat. It may not have been our best sounding song, but the people always enjoyed it. I hope you did too.
Stay tuned for next week, when we give stories from our past, recent and way back.

I remember that song! I hear it live, in concert at the Union. It's a classic!
