A little side note about what happened today

Why the bird lesson in the middle of Canada week you may ask? Well after school today as my students were exiting, I noticed a few students gathered around the grass in the middle of student pick up area. They were herding two killdeer chicks.
Here's a quick lesson on killdeer, one of my personal favorites of local birds. Killdeer usually have four eggs (This one had two). Killdeer chicks can't fly but they sure do run fast.
When you get close to one of the chicks, one parent feigns being injured as pictured below, while the other corrals the chicks. That's what was happening today.
So I grabbed one chick and a parent grabbed the other and we coaxed the parents out in the field behind the school and after much coaxing we reunited the killdeer family
