Gene's First Words

The next month as Renee and I wait for the arrival of our new family member, we will be recounted tales from our own childhoods. If anyone has a youthful nugget for us to build upon, do share.

There's a lot to say about the words first uttered by an infant. Most first say things like "Mama" or "Dada" because they hold their parents so dear. Alas my first true love was not a person but a beverage.

As my my tells the tale, when I was about two months old I became lactose intolerant (which is near impossible I've learned from my birthing class). So my mom being an adaptive first time parent traveled a path less traveled by and introduced me to the nectar of the gods (and astronauts), Tang. Yes that's right. My first true love and baby Gene's first word was Tang.

People have told me that this explains a lot, and there's probably some truth to that. Now as for if our soon to-be-tot will be downing that orangey goodness so young in age, only time will tell.

So as I'm drinking a glass of cold Tang even as I type, I would encourage ya'll to revisit my first true love in the coming week.
The Tang picture at right is from a 1980 Tang container, which very likely was like the actual canister that nourished me into my first year of life.
