New Year Blues

To say that our family has been hit hard with sickness after sickness this past month would be an understatement. We experienced many trips to the doctors and the ER before Christmas...and during Christmas there were 12 people (from both sides of our family) who were throwing up over the holidays (including Gene, me and Kins). It was the gift that kept on giving!

On Thursday Gene decided to take the kids and leave my parent's house in PA and come back to MD in hopes that the kids would sleep better being back in their own beds. I was left behind, because I was too weak to even get out of bed in fear that I'd throw up again.

Once Gene got to MD the nasty virus hit him for the first time. He was begging for me to come back to MD asap because he was all alone with the kiddos. My parents graciously drove me back to MD on New Year's Eve. He asked how I was going to take care of him and the kids since I was still sick and weak myself. I told him that my Mama Superpowers would kick in when I got there. Somehow they always do, don't they, fellow Moms?

I walked in the door and got to work getting dinner for the kids, giving baths, and sending two kids to bed early. Gene and I rang in the New Year together (well not really, it was only 8:30pm) by eating three Saltines each. I know. We really went all out. I even got a little crazy and put a little dab of butter on one of my Saltines just for flavor. I was feeling REALLY crazy!

We were in bed by 9:30pm. I couldn't sleep, though, because my tummy was rumbling from not eating for two days. So I got up at 11pm and made a microwaveable chicken pot pie freezer meal. I ate by myself while watching some Oprah reruns. I switched over just in time to see Dick Clark count down from 20. Nothing says Happy New Year like Oprah, microwavable meals, and aloneness.

At exactly midnight Kinsley decided to start screaming. That girl has great timing. I quickly found out it was the hooligans from next door who were outside with cowbells ringing in the New Year. The fireworks from the down the street didn't help either.

I went to bed. Gene rolled over and I said, "Happy New Year! I just ate a pot pie while watching Dick Clark and Oprah. Good night."

He thought I was lying...until he saw the empty chicken pot pie box on the counter in the morning.

Here's to a HEALTHY 2011!

Strange...must have been a Newky sickness because my grandparents, mom, and sister were all sick. Jason was the unlucky one to get sick right after we left my mom's. Weird! Hope you all feel better soon!

Oh girl! Hope you are all on your way to feeling better. There is nothing worse than being sick when your family is too. But you are right, the Mom superpowers always kick in! Here's to a healthy new year for the Huston family!
